Kelwy's Story
On January 13, 2005 after 25 hours of labor I gave birth to an 8lb 11oz 21.5 inch beautiful little girl. Nine months later I could barely walk up the steps at my school where I taught. In addition, I had a burning sensation all over my body that immobilized me. I was scared but pushed through it. I had not visited any doctors because autoimmune disease runs in my family and I'd seen my share of fruitless doctor visits. Instead, I chose to increase my vitamin intake, which for a time made it easy for me to function, but not for long.
By the next year I once again began to experience body wide burning, loss of muscle strength and debilitating fatigue. I barely slept because my bed hurt every inch of my body. Worried that I might have inherited Lupus or Polymyositis I finally went to a doctor. I was ignored and told to take NSAIDs. When I returned 2 months later in hand braces, I was referred to a rheumatologist who diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia and informed me that the only answer was Prednisone, which I refused. I began to pray and ask God to show me where to go and in Whole Foods market one day I saw a book called "From Fatigued to Fantastic". Well, it was like heaven opened up and angels sang and the book was all aglow! I took it home and devoured it! I ordered the Energy Drink and began to take it faithfully with the B vitamins. It worked wonders!
But six months later I again was back in the same place. A good friend of mine saw a show on Oprah about Fibromyalgia, and she said that I needed to find a person that specialized in my illness. That is when I found the Fibromyalgia & Fatigue Centers in Troy, MI and made an appointment that week to see Dr. Mustafa.
I saw Dr. Mustafa in January of 2008 and 7 months later can tell you, she saved my life. She was not only interested in helping me get better, but also in educating me as a person. She did not placate me or treat me as if I were unable to understand my body. Through plain speech and useful diagrams she showed me my body and where I am and where I could go. Her attitude has been positive and encouraging. The entire staff is friendly and supportive, and I enjoy each visit.
It's only been 6 months, and I'd say I'm functioning above 80%. I can't remember the last time I felt this good! I used to lie on the couch and tell my 2-year-old that I was too tired to play with her. Now she’s a 3 years old, and we play hide and seek and run through the house. She sees the difference in me and doesn't tell my husband that "mommy's too tired."
I'm living proof that God answers prayers! He used Dr. Mustafa and the Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Center to answer mine.
